I have noticed a lot of talk around the Auburn Journal about children lately. Quite a bit of it seems to be the pro-choice people vs. the pro-life people. I think that we can all come together & agree that there are children & families with children that could really use our help right now. The holidays are sometimes hard on families & children, especially single mothers with children. Below are some groups that spend a lot of time helping others & are now in need of OUR help. Remember that they rely on your assistance all year long, but right now is especially important to let some of our most vulnerable members of society know that we care. Thank you & God bless.

Birch,
Are you kidding? This is one of the best posts I've ever seen in the Journal!
Way to go!
BB: This crosses all political and ideological lines and goes straight to the heart of essential human compassion. Thank you.
Lactura poucorum serva multos.
Sacrifice the few for the many! Nice, skeptic.
Birch Bricker,
Thank you for this contribution. Locally, there is a food closet that assists those in need. For more information,
Auburn Interfaith Food Closet
2985 Richardson Drive, Auburn

for items that are needed.

bcapp1,
One of the best places the local homeless receive help in Auburn is from the Salvation Army. When you see those red kettles in front of local stores remember that the Army is providing food, clothing, personal hygiene items, and friendly support to our local people, so be sure to be generous.
Skeptic,
Is Lactura poucorum serva multos to "Offer some to save the many"? From the Latin proverb?
Just curious,
Robert Capp
Gregcalac,
You're so right. We have done "Kettle Work" and volunteered for their Thanksgiving dinner - a fantastic experience. To help others, is really helping ourselves. In addition, "The Gathering Inn" does excellent work with the homeless and a worthwhile investment.

Congratulations in a very unifying post, although I agree with all the above posts I want to emphasize gregcalac's which call it one of the best posts ever in the Auburn Journal.
This is certainly the season. I believe that those of us fortunate enough to have so far been untouched by the hard economic times need to provide some assistance to the less fortunate.
Merry Christmas to all.
Birch...thank you. I would like to add, if you can't give of your money but can of your time, this helps too.
The milk of the few serves many. BTW it is spelled "paucorum" meaning "of the few" in case the wrong spelling has thrown people off. Lactura is the goddess of corn, so I think lactura maybe refers to food and not mother's milk.
BTW, good post. Good list of places we all can give.
Skeptic: Mater tua criceta fuit, et pater tuo redoluit bacarum sambucus! Just kidding.
BB:
Good job.
BB: This new learning amazes me, Sir Birchbarker. Explain again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes.
Well, Skeptic, I've been working on my castle this weekend as it stood in need of some repair. The first castle I built... it sank into the swamp. The second castle... it sank into the swamp. The third castle burned down, fell over & THEN sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up! That's were I post from, lad... the strongest castle in these isles.
